On a Sunday evening, we had no trouble getting a table. I had prime rib which had an "off" or "livery" flavor. Wild rice was good. Hubby had fried walleye which he liked. He agreed on my assessment of the prime rib. I took the salad bar which had the usual veggies as well as herring (good), a pasta salad (fine), ham spread (good), and coleslaw. He had a a Caesar salad which he liked. My mixed drink was well prepared and he liked one of dark draft beers on tap. Decor is dark and hubby found the men's toilet area "worn and shabby." Clientele: appeared to be locals. A few little old ladies were dressed in their best polyester slacks and blouse. Saw many people who came in their "possibly clean tee-shirt with cut-off sleeves" and shorts. Does ANYBODY dress up anymore? Their awning says "Casual Fine Dining." I say "so-so meal in the company of people who are slobs with the exception of the elderly ladies."

This is a terrific vintage WI supper club. The food is excellent, the staff friendly and atmosphere is, well, classic WI supper club! I highly recommend it :)

This is by far one of the best places to eat. Just a coupe of blocks away from our shop. The food is excellent, the service is awesome. I frequently recommend Jones Black Angus to our customers.

One thing you need to take into account while reading this is that Prairie Du Chien is a small town and like most small towns there are a limited number of restaurants, so the five star rating is relative to what is available in Prarie. Angus is the best place in town for dinner. I do not eat meat, but everyone I dine with who gets a steak says it is delicious. I always get the Salmon Oscar, which is outstanding. They have a nice salad bar, which is always cold and clean. The service is always good and the drinks are very large and very cheap. If you are planning to eat at Angus on Friday or Saturday I would suggest making a reservation. Friday is fish fry night and the parking lot is always packed on Saturday. Overall, good food, good service and the best place in town to take someone who comes to visit.

I stopped here while on a mini-vacation and had a delightful time. This was a good old fashioned WI supper club at its finest. The steaks we had were delicious and service was just as good.

I took my friends here for a nice dinner. We didn't have reservations. When I explained that I was from 3.5 hrs away they found me a table even though it was Saturday night and busy. The food was excellent. I recommend the Prime Rib on Saturday night. The service was great too! I would definitely go back.

I'm quite sure this place is now called The Angus Supper Club. It's been under new ownership a few times over the years (according to our server, Bunny) so that must be the reason for the name change. My family and I were in the area for a reunion, and they insisted that we have dinner at The Angus. To be honest, I was a bit judgmental upon pulling into the parking lot. It's a visibly old establishment located directly off the highway in the small town of Prairie Du Chien. Upon walking in, I got the feeling that the restaurant hasn't changed much in the last few decades. This premonition was confirmed when my Aunt began telling me about a time that she celebrated her wedding anniversary at The Angus 30 years ago and that it looks almost exactly the same. An old bar is located in the back right corner, made of beautiful mahogany with classic chairs surrounding it. Make sure to at least walk past it, or better yet have a drink at it. Our group sat near the back of the restaurant where we were greeted promptly by our server, Bunny. She told us that she's been working at The Angus for 40 years and that she'd just celebrated her 70th birthday. When Bunny walked away, Bryan looked at me with wide eyes and asked, "Did she say four-TEEN or for-TY!?" Her experience really shone through her work; Bunny clearly loves her job and provided us with amazing service. Now for the good stuff. I started my meal off with a brandy old fashioned, seeing as I was at a Wisconsin supper club on a Saturday night. It turned out to be one of the most delicious and HUGE old fashioneds I've ever had. I almost had to use two hands to drink it, which reminded me once again why I love living in this state. Our group ordered the appetizer sampler, which was just a bunch of fried stuff on a platter. You won't hear any complaints from me about that, but when I return I'll just order the cheese curds. Oh my gosh, those cheese curds. They were absolutely amazing. Bunny brought us some ranch, 'just in case', and I was in heaven. Angus knows how to do Wisconsin - hot cheese curds and massive old fashioneds. I knew I'd be back to this restaurant after the appetizer. They have a full salad bar, complete with homemade croutons (so, so delicious) and cold plates. There was also a daily homemade soup and a large block of cheese to take slices from. I ordered the shrimp brochette for my entree, which was grilled (and fresh!) shrimp over a bed of wild rice and sauteed bell peppers. You get your choice of potato with all entrees. Most of my family ordered the prime rib, their Saturday night special, and everyone really seemed to enjoy it. I had a bite of Bryan's and it was pretty darn good. We were way too stuffed for dessert. I highly recommend stopping by The Angus if you're in the area. It's definitely a splurge meal, so be ready to spend a little more you normally would at a restaurant in Prairie du Chien. In my opinion, it's more than worth it!

Spectacular. We were referred to Jones' Black Angus by the proprietor of the B&B we were staying at. We both ordered a prime-rib combo with seafood. I had the lobster, she had the shrimp. The portions here are enormous and the help was very attentive, kind and engaging. We had a wonderful evening here and received quality food and service that was on par with some of the finest steakhouses in large cities at a very reasonable price. We didn't leave happy, we left thrilled and smiling. The only thing that I thought was odd was how dark it was inside. Great cuts of meat, good seafood and a nice salad bar!

While visiting Prairie du Chien my wife and I decided to give Jones' Black Angus a try. It did not disappoint. The supper club atmosphere was very typical of WI supper clubs (80's look). The salad bar was fresh and still being refreshed at 8:40 PM when we arrived. I had the all you can eat shrimp and did not make it passed the Coconut Shrimp because they were most excellent and the sauce the provide with it was superb. My wife got the Ribeye with Oscar (crab/lobster asparagus Bearnaise sauce) steak enhancer. Thankfully she does not eat a lot, so I got to enjoy both. It was one of the better steaks in recent memory. My wife could not stop talking about how good it was for hours afterward. To top it off our server, Britney, was personable and perfectly attentive. We will be back to Prairie, so that we can eat hear again.

Salad bar: not a lot of selections but with one exception, it was all fresh and tasty. (Note to the management: Bac-Os? Really? You guys are much better than that.) Entrees: I had the baked walleye fillet, and although there wasn't anything wrong with it, I still had the nagging thought that maybe I should have gotten a steak. I think what happened was that the chef prepared and plated it almost like a "poor man's lobster", what with minimal spicing and being served with drawn butter. I was hoping for something that stood on its own and had a bit more flavor. My wife, on the other hand, thoroughly enjoyed her ribs. One other downer I noted was the hash-browns with cheese and onions that was offered as a dinner potato choice. Normally, this pushes multiple yum buttons for me, but when the food arrived, I found that the cheese basically gummed up the works, and some of the onions were very aggressively sauteed, to the point of tasting a bit burnt. I think the take-away I have from eating here was that if I'd gone with my go-to order (filet, baked potato) I'd be giving 1.5 to two more stars to this place, because from what I'd seen from my spouse's order and other nearby diners, their kitchen cranks out some top-notch meat. We'll be back, though, next time we pass through the area, and this time I'm getting me some steaks.

I had dinner last night with my family. Im from chicago and have eaten at some top restaurants. Last nights dinner was awesome. The cheese curds are homemade not processed. The salad/soup bar had a nice selection to choose from. My ribeye was perfectly cooked and had a great flavor. They have a nice wine list with a variety of wines and price ranges. Our waitress Jennifer was wonderful.

We stumbled on this place while on vacation. The friendly staff were great. The atmosphere was warm and homey. The food was amazing. Steaks were cooked exactly as ordered. The salmon Oscar was great. My favorite was the tiramisu. We will definitely be back.

Let's get this out of the way first: The only knock against the Black Angus that I can come up with is its tired decor. It was probably last updated in the late seventies or eighties. It's old school, okay? Just accept that and get over it. However the food and drinks are excellent. We live in the Chicago area and have access to some really fine steakhouses, but, as I've told my friends, the steaks at the Black Angus are as good as you'll find anywhere. The portions are generous and of good quality. Included with every meal is the salad and soup bar. Not the most extensive in the world, but always well stocked and fresh. If you prefer, you can order a Caesar salad as an alternative. The cocktails are well made (though the last time we were there, they took longer than they should have) and reasonably priced. Here's something else--particularly in response to a comment by another reviewer regarding the cost of wine--they have a relatively small, but very high quality, selection of wines. And, rather than the tremendous markup you see in most restaurants, these really excellent wines are priced maybe 10-20% above what you'd pay in a liquor store. So, while the wines are perhaps a bit more expensive than the normal Wisconsin supper club's, they are genuinely very high quality wines that are very fairly priced for their quality. Service is generally very good. The waitresses always go through the same "Have you seen our specials?" schtick, but they are very knowledgeable about the menu (not so much the wine), and will honestly answer any questions about their preferences. I'll have to learn to get over the outdated decor, I guess, because the food and beverages here are exceptional and it's all priced very fairly. I highly recommend the Black Angus (Incidentally, the exterior sign simply says "Angus," rather than "Black Angus" . . . maybe they'll fix that when they update the interior).

This is my favorite place to eat in PDC. I used to go here with my parents in the '70's & it's still good. Took my motorcycle up that way this last weekend & hit the Angus on Friday, June 13th, 2014. Had my usual, the filet. It was excellent, as usual, too. They were packed when we got there around 6:30 pm, so we had a seat at the bar where others were waiting as well. We were seated in about 20 minutes & the feast was on. They have a pretty good little salad bar, great entrees, good, friendly service & the place is nice & clean. I've been to a lot of "supper clubs" & this one is right up there. I will go there every time I'm in town from Chicago.

Love WI supper clubs. Got there early on a Friday night and had a great experience. Full salad bar with ribeye and prime rib, both were superb as were the old fashions and post dinner ice cream drinks.
